Muscle Testing is a hands-on evaluation technique we use to assess how well specific muscles are functioning, not just how strong they are, but how well they're communicating with your nervous system. It's one of the most valuable diagnostic tools in our office because it often reveals problems before they show up as pain.
During a muscle test, we ask you to hold a position while gentle, controlled pressure is applied to a specific muscle or muscle group. A muscle that tests strong and "locks in" is functioning well. A muscle that gives way easily, feels unstable, or fatigues quickly may be inhibited by something else going on in the body — an old injury, a joint that isn't moving properly, inflammation, or even stress.
Muscle testing gives us real-time feedback, which makes it one of the most useful tools for building an effective, individualized treatment plan. Rather than guessing at what might help, we can test a muscle, apply a specific treatment or adjustment, and then retest the same muscle to see whether it responded. That immediate feedback loop helps us know we're on the right track, and helps you understand exactly what's happening in your own body.
We also use muscle testing to track your progress over time. Comparing results from visit to visit lets us see objectively whether a treatment plan is working, whether it's time to adjust our approach, and when you're ready to move from active treatment into maintenance or a home exercise program.
Muscle testing is often used alongside Applied Kinesiology, chiropractic adjustment, and rehabilitative exercise, giving us a well-rounded, evidence-informed way to get to the root of what's holding your body back.
