Applied KinesiologyApplied Kinesiology (AK) is a diagnostic system that uses manual muscle testing to evaluate the function of your nervous system, structural framework, and overall health. Rather than relying on symptoms alone, we test how specific muscles respond to gentle pressure to uncover imbalances that may not show up on a standard exam. The technique was developed in 1964 by Dr. George Goodheart, a Detroit chiropractor who discovered that weak or inhibited muscles were often connected to problems elsewhere in the body — a tight organ, an old injury, a nutritional deficiency, or even unresolved stress. Since then, Applied Kinesiology has grown into a widely used clinical tool, taught and practiced by chiropractors, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers around the world. During an Applied Kinesiology evaluation, we ask you to hold a position while gentle, specific pressure is applied to a muscle. A muscle that "gives way" or tests weak isn't necessarily a sign of physical weakness — it's often a signal that something else in the body is interfering with that muscle's normal function. By systematically testing a series of muscles, we can build a picture of where your body needs support. We use Applied Kinesiology to help identify the underlying cause of chronic pain, old injuries that never fully healed, postural imbalances, and even food sensitivities or nutritional gaps that may be holding back your recovery. Once we've identified the imbalance, we can combine chiropractic adjustment, targeted exercises, nutritional support, or other therapies to correct it, rather than simply treating the symptom in front of us. Many of our patients find Applied Kinesiology to be the missing piece after other treatments have only offered partial or temporary relief. Because it looks at the whole person — structural, chemical, and mental/emotional — it often catches things that get missed when only one system is examined at a time.Applied Kinesiology
